April

April was a great month of adventures and tests of how much Elizabeth can handle. She is awesome. Just to say the least, she is our little sleeper. She likes being asleep but hates the feeling of falling asleep.

Besides her visits with her cousins, she has had her first play-date with her friend Luke. Luke was very curious about her. But she slept through most of it.

That same weekend (her first month birthday), we took her on her first train ride. There is a steam train that runs from Niles up to Sunol, for those who know where those places are. The hills were still green, everything lush, and the river was also high from all the rain we've been having. The best time of year for this type of trip, in my opinion. Again, she enjoyed her day very much, by sleeping the whole way. (I caught her this once with her eyes open. Happy and fed.)

She had her first month check up which I have already shared with you her growth. 10 lb 6 oz and 22 inches long. She got her first shots. Nobody likes shots. No mother likes hearing her baby scream like that either! She at least calmed quickly.

Mid April we went to Tahoe for her first time in the snow. There was a ton of snow this year. She was a trooper and slept the whole car ride. It was a fun weekend. We went for many walks, played on her blanket, and did a puzzle. Some day she will understand what puzzle pieces are for.

At the end of April, my cousin got married. We again had another long drive in the car, and again she slept the whole way through (yippee!). Woke up hungry just as we arrived, perfect! There was a dinner that Friday that we got there. Surprisingly she was awake most of the time. I guess, can't be asleep all the time, but she certainly was quiet. If she made a sound we wouldn't have known, as it was sooo loud there. She had great white noise for her to be calm. :) I had my wonderful aunt and cousin to keep her entertained as well. The wedding on Saturday morning was just beautiful. It was a little chilly but sunny and blue sky. My cousin was beautiful. We had a great time. And Elizabeth again, slept through it.

Okay, so I know she sleeps a lot, but I will be teased if I say she is good all the time. She has found her lungs and knows how to use them. We are just lucky she doesn't use them that often. She fusses more than screams. We have found she continues to do her routine like she did in the womb, an active day and then a quiet day. We have used more and more the pacifier, but she doesn't take it that much. She struggles to keep it in. She prefers her fist. As she did in the womb she continues to do now, suck on her hand. That is when she finds it. She is getting better at finding it now though. We still encourage her to use the pacifier if it is handy. She is good that she uses it just enough to calm herself and then spits it out. We'll see which will win out- her hand or the pacifier.

Funny moments during this month. Things have changed some now-

She has screamed at me that she is not asleep when she finishes feeding. She tries again to only find she is full and still awake. And yes, I tried the other boob to see if it was just that she wasn't getting enough milk.

The best way to calm her is put her on the changing table. She instantly stops fussing and smiles. The trick is to keep her that way once you take her off the table.

She knows her routine. If she is changed and I walk past the rocking chair, she gets upset, thinking she is not going to get fed.

She is our growing girl we love so much. April was a great month, full of activities.
